Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) is an operating company for the Geita Gold Mine, a large-scale open-pit and underground gold mine in northwestern Tanzania. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of the global gold mining company AngloGold Ashanti. The Geita Gold Mining Limited is situated in the Geita region, near the town of Geita, approximately 120 kilometers from the city of Mwanza. The mine uses a combination of open-pit and underground mining methods. It processes ore at an on-site carbon-in-leach (CIL) plant.

The role provides geological technical support to the Underground Grade Control Geology team, guiding underground mining planning and operations to achieve production targets in line with budget and the life-of-mine plan. It involves supervising grade control drilling programs, monitoring ore production, monitoring the performance of drilling contractors, mitigating potential operational variances, and building team capability to ensure the team has the skills and knowledge to deliver on work plans.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.Sc. in Geology or a higher degree, or an equivalent qualification in Geoscience field.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years of working experience in mining Geology in a medium- to large-scale mining operation.
  • Minimum of 3 years of working experience in a mining underground environment.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possession of a valid Tanzanian Driving License
  • Proficient in mining software such as Datamine, Leapfrog, Datamine Fusion Database, and Mine Mapper.
  • Strong knowledge of geological data analysis, interpretation, and 3D geological modeling.
  • Understanding grade control methodologies, production/mining processes, and mine-to-mill reconciliation.
  • Awareness of business unit value drivers and operational priorities.
  • Ability to make timely, well-informed decisions and set action priorities effectively.
  • Highly reliable and capable of delivering results.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, influencing, and team motivation skills.
  • Ability to develop and mentor subordinates, enhancing their skills and knowledge through training and coaching.

MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Develop and implement working procedures for areas of responsibility, ensuring team compliance and achievement of departmental KPIs.
  • Plan, schedule, and supervise underground grade control drilling programs, aligning them with mining operations strategy and life-of-mine plans.
  • Monitor weekly, monthly, and quarterly schedules to ensure Grade Control plans support mining operations with minimal disruption.
  • Interpret and validate geological information obtained underground, ensuring accuracy for each section and specific ring.
  • Review geological interpretations against face sample results and grade control models to optimize ore extraction.
  • Ensure drilling platforms and resources are available on time and aligned with forecasted drilling schedules and mining strategy.
  • Analyze assay results promptly and update weekly grade control progress reports for management decision-making.
  • Attend production meetings to validate forecasted production and align with approved stope plans.
  • Supervise the mapping team, ensuring development drives are mapped and sampled accurately.
  • Analyze ore material performance to manage allocation for optimal blending.
  • Monitor overbreak and underbreak to control ore dilution and manage mined tonnage.
  • Ensure proper handling, recording, and sampling of ore material from underground to satellite ROM pads.
  • Prepare and update daily, weekly, and monthly production and stock balance reports, flagging potential risks.
  • Reconcile mined tonnage and provide recommendations for contractor payments.
  • Supervise drilling contractors to ensure work meets contract specifications and standards.
  • Coordinate and supervise the work of other team members and subordinates.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and identify training needs to enhance team skills and technical capability.
  • Ensure timely and accurate capture of data in the geology database, meeting quality standards.
  • Demonstrate behaviors consistent with company values, policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
  • Communicate proactively with management regarding accountability, time, or resource constraints.
  • Commit fully to assigned tasks, delivering results with dedication and capability.
